What to Give Jesus for Christmas
Are you ready for Christmas? Have you prepared all your gifts? Or are
you still searching for the last person on your list?
We wait in long lines, surf through lengthy pages, and dig deep in our
pockets looking for that perfect gift for those we love. As Christians,
our greatest love is Christ. This Christmas we may ask ourselves, what
could I possibly give Jesus?
Our God is supreme. What is there that He does not already own? What
could little old me give to a most wonderful creator?
Christmas has never been about what we could give to God. Rather, Christmas
has been about what God has given to us. God loved us first. Because of
His love, God gave us His only son so that we may have everlasting life.
The true meaning of Christmas is all about Jesus and what He did for us.
However, for those of us who already know or are beginning to understand
the meaning of this gift, we find a desire to give our love in return.
Because of Jesus, there are some things we can give to our God on high.
Firstly, give acceptance of His gifts. God is an all-powerful, all-knowing,
loving creator who knows our every whim, desire, and need. When God gives,
it is with purpose and love. The worst we can do is to be so prideful
as to reject a gift from God. The greatest love we can show to the Almighty
is to humbly accept God’s gifts in faith. When we do, it shows that we
believe in Him and all that He is.
Secondly, give gratitude. Thankfulness is not something we can fake.
True appreciation is a matter of the heart. When a daughter receives a
gift from her father, and she looks up and says “Thank You,” his heart
melts. Likewise, when we pray and give thanks to the Lord for the food
He has provided, it brings immense joy to His heart.
Thirdly, delight in the gifts God gives you. Cherish them, use them,
and play with them. As faces light up next to the Christmas tree and little
hands scurry to tear off wrapping paper, adults find wonder in watching
children playing with their new toys. Seeing people happy with their gifts,
delighting in them, and using them makes the gifts all the more meaningful.
Likewise, God is glorified when we use the gifts He gives to the best
of our ability.
Fourthly, share your gifts. Every blessing God gives, He gives abundantly
so that we can in turn share with others. How awesome is God! He helps
us to love others and share in love. Sharing our gifts with others, especially
those in need shows that God lives in us. Doing so brings glory to God.
Lastly, the greatest gift we can give God is our life. In John 15:13,
Jesus says the greatest love we can show is to lay our life down for our
friends. When we give our lives to Jesus, it demonstrates the four gifts
above and gives the Lord a way to continually show us His love. When we
give our lives to Jesus, we can be sure that God will accept us, appreciate
us, delight in us, and share us with others.
And so, this Christmas, as you unwrap all the presents under the Christmas
tree, don’t forget to give God your gifts, and let Him unwrap you.
